History, arts and culture

Montmagny and the Islands has a unique culture and an exceptional artistic expertise. The proximity of the archipelago offers unsuspected treasures which are used in our local products and recognized throughout the province. Our features inspire our people, even those who lives here just for a short period of time. The well-known painter Jean-Paul Riopelle has lived on the Isle-aux-Grues in his last years and this is where he did his last paintings.

In the region, we like to sculpt things, whether it is on wood, glass or stone. You’ll find many galleries and exposition halls where paintings, sculptures and engravings are highlighted. There is definitely something for everybody.

Music has such a preponderant role in the life of our region that for over 25 years, the Carrefour mondial de l’accordéon celebrate the history of this magical instrument which is part of so many cultures throughout the world.
